I'm assuming I was logged out of the app as a means to force me to log back in for verification. I understand that app security is important. (Unfortunately, it happened right before the worship service.) It would be better to find other ways to maintain app security without disrupting the actual app usage. Perhaps it might be locking out certain features like changing account / profile data or modifying a set that affects multiple users. An alternative might be sending periodic summaries of app usage by device via email.
