Using custom background in slides

So I wanted to add a custom image as background of a slide.
This doesn't work as it only shows me the default options. Now I can add a slide "to the templates" but not background templates.
I have not found any way to add a simple image to the background templates. This shouldn't be a huge thing....

"Background Templates" currently exclusively refer to Slide Templates from the Pro Plus media library
