Change image brightness (for better text contrast)

I'd like a feature to easily edit images with a brightness filter. This would create a contrast between the images and the lyrics. Songbeamer has a very useful function for this and can make an image either brighter (fog) for black text or darker for light text, or however it's best for readability.
